Terms of Call
Meeting the Needs of the Pastor and the Congregation
For the right candidate, the position of Solo Pastor at William and Mary Hart Presbyterian Church could be a full time or a part time call. The priority of the Pastor Nominating Committee, with input from the Session, is to find a person with a calling to small congregational ministry, who values the benefits of rural community and close-knit congregational life.

This person should be a “self-starter” as their work will be largely unseen by the majority of the community. A new pastor’s study has been created to make working at the church more appealing, but there is not an expectation that the pastor would be at the church all of the time.

For the right candidate, this position could be…
Full time- 40 hours per week, at $50,000 per year (Effective salary) with PC(USA) Board of Pensions benefits appropriate for their situation, with or without family. This would include the standard 4 weeks of vacation, 2 weeks of study leave, and presbytery minimums for reimbursables.

The current budget would run at a deficit, but the history of the congregation is that full time pastors generally bring more energy, and with some growth, this could be sustainable. In the meantime, savings are robust enough that a deficit budget could withstand a full-time pastor without growth for a several years. The Session advises that while it does not prefer deficit budgets, hiring the right person full time is an investment in the life of the church.

Part Time- 20-30 hours per week, with prorated salary and full benefits as described above. This option is meant for someone who is bi-vocational or who has some other high priority which keeps them from working full-time.

William and Mary Hart has elected not to explore shared/yoked ministry with another congregation.
